Britney Spears gold Collection. Britney Spears has been offered a 'virtual receptionist' job with PETA.

The troubled singer - who has been criticised by the animal rights group for wearing fur and buying animals from pet stores in the past - has been contacted by PETA president Ingrid Newkirk offering her the position and the chance to raise $1,000 for her favourite charity.

Newkirk wrote in a letter to the 'Toxic' star: "You would see - from the inside - why we are so concerned about issues like fur and homeless dogs and cats. As a thank you for your willingness to learn and help, we would donate $1,000 to a children's charity.

"We might have criticised you in the past for contributing to the dog overpopulation crisis and wearing real fur, but perhaps now that your own crisis has abated, a new day calls for a new relationship, a new outlook and a new understanding."

Newkirk was said to be "very impressed" by Britney's performance on US TV show 'How I Met Your Mother' last week, and thinks she would be a welcome addition to the PETA team. PETA is yet to receive a response from Britney.

Britney Spears has been offered the lead in a West End production.

The 'Toxic' singer - who made a guest appearance on US sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother' on Monday (24.03.08) - is considering treading the famous London boards to play ageing 'Southern Belle' Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams' play 'A Streetcar Named Desire'.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Britney's been on the list for this for some time but until recently was considered too risky.

"Her appearance on 'How I Met Your Mother' changed all that. She had poise, timing and a real flair.

"She may be a bit too young for the role but she is perfect to embody the tragic spirit of Blanche, who uses alcohol to mask her pain."

If Britney accepts the part of the pretentious but insecure Blanche, she will follow in the footsteps of Vivien Leigh, who won an Oscar for her portrayal in the 1951 film adaptation.

Meanwhile, Britney is set to appear at this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles on March 29.

A source said: "It's supposed to be top secret, but everyone is already buzzing about it. Her sister Jamie Lynn made such a splash at the event last year, Brit knows that she'll get as much, if not more, attention if she shows up this year."

Kevin Federline is sending "good energy" to ex-wife Britney Spears.

Kevin, who has two children with Britney, says the troubled singer is a big part of his life and hopes she gets her life back on track soon.

The 30-year-old, who also has two children with former lover Shar Jackson, said: "I will always love the mothers of my children, and I will always be there for both of them. I believe that any good energy I put out there brings more good energy into my own life. The relationships with my kids and family will last my whole life and are the most important to me.

"It is so very important to me that my children will always know and never question, that no matter what happens, they have a mommy and daddy who love them very much."

Kevin, who was recently named Father of the Year by Details magazine, also revealed he considers his children to be the most important thing in his life.

He added to In Touch Weekly magazine: "I spend most of the day chasing my kids around the house. Their needs define my schedule every day.

"I'm going to be the best role model for my kids. And if that example helps other young, single dads who might be going through the same experiences that I am right now, it would be a great compliment."

Kevin has been fighting Britney for custody of two-year-old Sean Preston and 18-month-old Jayden James since last year.

He also has a five-year-old daughter Kori and a three-year-old son Kaleb, from his relationship with Shar.

Britney Spears made her much-hyped guest appearance Monday night's "How I Met Your Mother," submersing her tumultuous personal life and portraying a sweet-natured receptionist, Abby, with a crush on unlucky-in-love Ted (Josh Radnor).

Problem is: Ted only has eyes for Abby's boss Stella (Sarah Chalke), a dermatologist. Ted's goal: to win a date by his 10th session with Stella. Nothing's working.

Finally, he figures: "The receptionist — that's my way in."

So he brings Abby coffee in a bid to impress Stella, but it charms Abby even more. During one visit, Abby trails him and Stella into an office to deliver a book — a self-help tome called "The Power of Me" — that he left behind in the waiting room.

The 26-year-old pop star, who previously was on a 2006 episode of "Will and Grace," appeared fresh-faced and relaxed, capably filling the small role. She was also the host and musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" in 2000.

Of course, she's made news in recent months not for being Britney the Performer but for her split with ex-husband Kevin Federline in late 2006, their subseqent custody battle, Spears' bizarre behavior and two hospitalizations.

Spears' cameo on the CBS sitcom may mark the beginnings of a more successful comeback attempt than last September's MTV Video Music Awards.

She remains under the conservatorship of her father, James.

Israeli singer embraces Britney, Apple for success

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Folksy French-Israeli singer Yael Naim found commercial success after her song "New Soul" played in Apple's MacBook Air laptop ads, pushing the song to No. 7 on U.S. music chart Billboard's Hot 100.

She already had gained fame for what some saw as a comic choice to cover pop singer Britney Spear's "Toxic," singing a soulful, poignant version of the commercial hit while playing piano.

But Naim, 29, whose self-titled new album was just released in the United States two months earlier than originally planned following the success of the Apple ad, says she's not worried about being seen as too commercial.

"It opened a great window for us, for a lot of people to have a chance to hear about our music," she told Reuters in New York. "We had a lot of propositions ... but we thought Apple and Macintosh have some connection because today we work with computers to do our music."

The singer-songwriter, who was born in Paris but spent a large part of her childhood in Israel, recorded her new album in her Paris apartment with her music partner, percussionist David Donatien.

"We did not have a label," she said. "We did not have a lot of money so we did it just with a computer."

NAME HALVED

She became disillusioned with the "big studio" experience after her first album "In a Man's Womb" was released in 2001 through EMI, which insisted she keep her name to just Yael.

"It was like they took half of my energy," she said.

Both "Toxic" and "New Soul" appear on her new, second album, which was recorded in English, Hebrew and French and has received warm reviews. Rolling Stone magazine noted: "The way Naim purrs any word with a hard 'ch' will make your loins tingle."

Naim, who spent two years in the Israel Air Force Orchestra, said she was surprised audiences in France had embraced the mixed-language album.

"I did not think anyone would want to listen to ballads in Hebrew," she said. "It is not considered a very sexy language."

She also didn't expect the success of her version of "Toxic," which Rolling Stone described as "a stripped-down, slow-motion, kinda-brilliant cover."

"I don't particularly like her (Spears) as a musician, the voice, but this song is a good song," she said. "I wanted to take something that is completely opposite of the music we do."

Audiences at live shows, such as one last week in Manhattan, react excitedly to "Toxic," as well as to her current hit.

She confided to the crowd of several hundred that she once believed she was an old soul.

"Then my real life began and I figured that maybe I'm not an old soul," she said before launching into "New Soul."

The singer - who has an on/off relationship with paparazzo Adnan Ghalib - was terrified he was cheating on her so constantly bombarded him with calls and messages.

Amanda Pagel - who claims she slept with Adnan for three months behind Britney's back - said: 'Britney used to call all the time when he was at mine.

She sent him hundreds of texts a day, sometimes just seconds apart.'

Amanda alleged Adnan - who recently claimed Britney was pregnant with his child - couldn't cope with the 'Toxic' star's crazy lifestyle and wanted to move away with Amanda.

She told Look magazine: 'He was sick of being 'Mr. Spears'. He said the stress was taking its toll and he hated being pursued by the paparazzi.

'He asked me to start a new life with him. He said, 'Let's leave Hollywood, live in Italy and start a family.' ' Amanda also says Adnan always insisted he and Britney were just friends and she would never have slept with him if she knew they were a couple.

Britney friend fights court over restraining order

Britney Spears’ friend has filed legal papers objecting to the court commissioner dealing with his restraining order in relation to the pop star.

Osama “Sam” Lutfi was not present for a hearing on Monday at which Superior Commissioner Reva Goetz extended a temporary restraining order against him until April 16.

A one-sentence filing said: “Please take notice that Osama ”Sam“ Lutfi will not stipulate to the above-referenced case being heard by Reva Goetz, commissioner presiding, to whom the above-entitled case has been assigned.”

The document was signed and indicated Lutfi was representing himself.

Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said last night that although the document was filed on Friday, it did not reach the courtroom in time for Monday’s hearing.

Spears' ex plans restaurant with her dad

Professional caterer Jamie Spears and the dancer/rapper have taken over a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles.

The restaurant, Casa Cordobes, has been a favourite of Federline's for years and he once ate there with Britney.

Despite his ongoing custody war with Britney, Federline has maintained a friendship with his former father-in-law - the pair was spotted playing golf together earlier this month.

Spears set for 'South Park'

Britney Spears is to appear on US TV comedy 'South Park'.

The pop singer will join Marilyn Manson and Tom Cruise among the stars who have been parodied on the cult cartoon series, when her likeness appears in an episode which airs in America today.

In the episode, 'South Park' regulars Stan and Kyle take on a mission to get troubled Spears to the North Pole.

In a news release, a spokesman for the show says: "Britney Spears is trying to get away from it all in the mountains near South Park when the boys have a run-in with her.

"Stan and Kyle get caught up in Britney's celebrity and the never-ending feeding frenzy that follows her wherever she goes."

Britney Spears has been ordered to pay $375,000 of ex-husband Kevin Federline's legal bills.

The troubled singer - who has been fighting Kevin for custody of two-year-old Sean Preston and 18-month-old Jayden James since last year - was given the staggering legal bill by Los Angeles Court Commissioner Scott Gordon who says it is "reasonable in light of the actions of Ms. Spears causing the great majority of litigation".

Last week, Britney's lawyer Stacy Phillips complained Kevin's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, had overcharged the 26-year-old 'Toxic' star. Phillips said Kevin should contribute to his own legal fees after leaving a $2,000 tip on a $365 restaurant bill recently. While Kevin previously insisted he has no regular income, Phillips argued the 29-year-old rapper should pay part of his legal bills as he appears financially capable of leaving such an extortionate tip.

Meanwhile, Andrew Wallet - who, along with Britney's father Jamie, is co-conservator of her estate - was authorised to put some of Britney's cars up for sale by Commissioner Gordon yesterday.
After hearing Wallet's request, Britney's court appointed attorney, Sam Ingham replied: "I have no objection to that."

Spears plays a receptionist at a dermatologist's office where she falls in love with one of the show's main characters, Ted (played by Josh Radnor).

The 26-year-old mother received praise from all the stars of the show, who claimed that Brit-Brit was professional and hilarious.

America's favorite pop tart says she loved playing the part and even mentioned the possibility of playing a continuous role on the show.

Britney Spears had dinner with Mel Gibson on Saturday night (15.03.08).

The troubled singer met the 'Braveheart' actor at Los Angeles' Romanov restaurant where they ate filet mignon steak as they talked for two hours.

A restaurant insider said: "It was exciting to have both of them here together. We heard they hit it off and that Britney seemed excited." Britney, 26, wore jeans, a green top and boots for the dinner date in the restaurant's private dining room.

She was accompanied by her close friend Victoria, while 52-year-old Mel bought along some of his own pals. Meanwhile, 13 employees at California's UCLA Medical Center have been fired after illegally revealing details of Britney's stay there earlier in the year.

Britney was taken hospital's psychiatric ward for an evaluation after refusing to return sons two-year-old Sean Preston and 18-month-old Jayden James to husband Kevin Federline. Six other people have been suspended while a further six doctors face disciplinary action.
Medical records relating to the birth of Britney's second child Jayden were also leaked from the hospital.

Jeri Simpson, the director of human resources at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, said: "It's not only surprising, it's very frustrating and it's very disappointing. "I feel we do everything we possibly can to ensure the privacy of our patients and I know we feel horrible that it happened again."

After one of her court supervised dates with Preston and Jayden, Britney headed out to a local restaurant Saturday - and it was a lot nicer than hitting up a 7-11!

Brit met up with Mel Gibson and his wife Robin at the swanky Russian themed Romanov restaurant in Studio City. The three were part of a larger group and enjoyed a relaxed dinner before heading out separately.

TMZ reports that this isn't the first time the pop wreck has met with Mel, and rumour has it that the Gibsons are trying to help Brit to learn how to deal with paparazzi pressure.

We heard they hit it off and that Britney seemed excited." A source told People magazine. Another observer called the meeting "a success."

Any kind of success is good news for Spears right now - while relying on her parents' judgment seems to be helping her to get back to normal, she'll eventually need pillars of support outside the family. And while it's unusual for a woman in her 20s to befriend an older couple, with all their experience with Mel's bad press (especially his contorversial alcoholic episodes) the Gibsons could be great mentors for Britney.

Or maybe there's a movie role on the way? Brit hasn't let her mental health stand in the way of her music career, so maybe she's planning a big return to acting.

Spears hospital 'to punish staff'

Hospital staff in Los Angeles will lose their jobs for reading Britney Spears' medical records, reports suggest.

The Los Angeles Times says workers at the UCLA medical centre looked at Spears' confidential files when she was admitted to the hospital in January.

Jeri Simpson, the hospital's head of human resources, confirmed to the AP news agency that several staff would be disciplined or fired over the incident.

"It's very frustrating and it's very disappointing," she said.

According to the Los Angeles Times, 13 staff - none of them doctors - will lose their jobs.

Another 12 will be disciplined for looking at Spears' computer records, it reported.

However, the hospital would not confirm these figures, nor would it say when the incident took place.

This is not the first time the centre has had to reprimand employees for looking at Spears' records.

Several workers were fired for snooping after Spears gave birth to her first son, Sean Preston, in September 2005.

"We feel horrible that it happened again," Simpson said, adding that UCLA treats celebrities "all the time and you never hear about this".

"I don't know what it is about this particular person, I don't know what it is about her," she continued.

Spears was taken to UCLA by ambulance in the early hours of 31 January, and was reportedly held on a psychiatric ward.

Her father has since been given control of her assets and estate, and she has been allowed only limited contact with her two sons.

Britney removes Kabbalah tattoo

Britney Spears has had her Kabbalah tattoo removed.

The 'Toxic' star had a Hebrew tattoo on the back of her neck bearing one of the 72 words for 'God' found in the texts of Kabbalah, a mystical off-shoot of Judaism.

However, when the 26-year-old singer was spotted out shopping in Los Angeles earlier this week, it was clear she has had the tattoo removed.

This isn't the only inking on Britney's body. She also has pink dice on her forearm, a Japanese kanji symbol which means 'strange', a fairy on the small of her back, a butterfly and vine chain on her right foot, a star on her hand and a pair of lips on her wrist.

Meanwhile, Britney's paparazzo beau Adnan Ghalib - who was recently turned away from Britney's Los Angeles house - has begged fans to keep supporting the troubled 'Gimme More' singer.

He said: "In a situation like that, you're not ever going to contain it. It is what it is. Just keep praying. That's what I say."

Britney Spears' upcoming appearance on the CBS show "How I Met Your Mother" could be — to borrow scene-stealer Barney's favorite word — legendary.

Spears will guest star in a March 24 episode of the cult series, CBS spokeswoman Kelli Raftery told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The pop star will portray a receptionist in a dermatologist's office named Abby who becomes "smitten" with Ted (Josh Radnor), Raftery said.

Craig Thomas, the show's creator, told Usmagazine.com that Spears attended a table reading with the cast on Monday, and that her scenes will probably be filmed later this week. He said representatives for Spears approached the CBS about "Mother" because "she was looking for a small part on a funny show."

Spears has previous TV sitcom experience playing a character on a 2006 episode of "Will and Grace." She was also the host and musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" in 2000.

"How I Met Your Mother," returning Monday with all-new episodes following the writers strike, co-stars Radnor, Jason Segal, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris as twentysomethings living in New York City. Harris portrays serial bachelor Barney Stinson, who frequently uses the word "legendary" to describe his various exploits.

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears' new lawyer has a tip for Kevin Federline: If you're going to ask for your legal bills to be paid, don't leave a $2,000 tip for the waiter on a $365 check.

Attorney Stacy Phillips, who recently took over Spears' case, told a court Monday that the pop star has already spent more than $1 million on her child-custody case and objects to paying nearly a half-million dollars in legal fees for her ex-husband, who has enough money to have recently left the exorbitant gratuity.

Phillips had asked for the hearing to challenge a move by Federline's lead lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, to have Spears pay his legal bills. Commissioner Scott Gordon did not rule during the hearing, part of which was held behind closed doors. Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said the decision may be made Tuesday.

Federline has sole custody of his two little boys by Spears, who is under the conservatorship of her father, James, following bizarre behavior and two hospitalizations. Federline and James Spears chatted amiably at court.

During the hearing, Phillips said that Federline's lawyers have billed excessively and are entitled to only about $150,00 to $175,000.

Phillips also said Federline has the money to pay his lawyers himself, citing excessive personal spending by him. She said he recently had a $365 check at a restaurant and gave the waiter a $2,000 tip.

"God bless!" Phillips said. "If he's willing to tip someone that much for serving him, he should be willing to pay his legal fees."

Kaplan argued that the $600-an-hour fees charged by him and partner James Simon were for legitimate work in an extraordinary case.

"If the court views this as a simple custody case, I'm in trouble," Kaplan told Gordon.

Kaplan pointed out there were numerous hearings involving Spears' behavior, which created emergencies involving the safety of her children.

"When you have a case with monitored visitation, that is not a regular case," he said.

He insisted that it requires the complete attention of himself and his partner.

"There is no doubt that the petitioner (Britney Spears) had bad judgment and the inability to understand there was bad judgment," he said. "... I was in court between September and January eight times. I had no choice."

Kaplan said every legal move by Federline was to protect the welfare of the children.

Phillips also criticized Kaplan for courting media attention.

Kaplan said he did not bill for any time he spent with the media, and he asserted it was beneficial to the court to have post-hearing press conferences to explain what happened.

"I think everything done on our side was done because Mr. Federline was trying to protect his children from a very dangerous and fluid situation," Kaplan said.

Phillips asserted that since James Spears took over, "I think Mr. Spears and Mr. Federline are light years ahead of the lawyers and the lawyers' time will now be minimal."

The court spokesman said the closed hearing dealt with visitation and there was no change.

After sole custody of Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, was given to Federline, Britney Spears was not allowed to see them for nearly two months until the former couple agreed to a modification of the court order that has allowed brief visits since late February.

The 'Believe' singer advised the troubled star to escape unwanted attention from photographers by planting a car bomb, as she was pursued by snappers herself.

Britney Spears is planning to marry her personal assistant in Las Vegas, it has been claimed.

The 'Gimme More' singer - whose 2004 Vegas wedding to childhood friend Jason Alexander was annulled after 55 hours - is reportedly infatuated with assistant Sam Lufti and has already told ex-husband Kevin Federline and her lawyers she is planning to tie the knot.

A source said: "Britney is completely under Sam's spell. Everyone sees through him, except her. I hear that he stays with her most of the time, and she pays for his food, his bar and restaurant tabs and his clothing. She takes care of everything.

"Her lawyers have begged her to at least get a prenup, but she didn't seem to be listening."

Kevin, 29, is said to be furious about the 26-year-old singer's plans as he does not want Sam to be stepfather to his sons, two-year-old Sean Preston and 15-month-old Jayden James.

A family insider told America's Star magazine: "Kevin has seen Sam lose his temper. We hear he swears a lot and makes very derogatory statements when he's alone with Brit.

"Kevin has forbidden Britney from having Sam around the boys. In fact, Kevin has threatened to get a restraining order. She'll lose custody if she allows Sam around them, Kevin will make sure of it."

Meanwhile, Kevin's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan will appear in court today (18.12.07) to discuss Britney's night of partying last week, on the same day she claimed to be too ill to attend her court-ordered deposition. Inside sources say Kaplan plans to ask the judge to prevent Britney getting more custody of the boys until she sits for her court-documented questioning with Kevin's legal team.

He could also request Britney's lawyers be blocked from depositioning anyone on Kevin's side.

Kevin currently has temporary full custody of the boys and receives £15,000-a-month in child support from Britney, while she has three
supervised visits a week.

They have agreed to share custody over the Christmas holidays, but Kaplan may even appeal for Britney's current visitation rights to be withdrawn.
